Sue Bird has emotional farewell with WNBA loss: ‘Thank you, Sue’

Sue Bird, a legendary player for UConn women's basketball,

stood at centre court in Seattle's Climate Pledge Arena and bit her bottom lip as she observed the Seattle audience.

When the crowd started yelling "Thank you, Sue," she fought to contain her sniffles as her eyes started to water.

Bird sent a heartfelt kiss to the chain that has been her home for the past 21 years.

She started wiping the tears from her cheeks because she was unable to hold them back any longer.

Basketball player Sue Bird's more than 20-year career is over.

The Team USA, WNBA, and UConn standout has left the game.

She and her former UConn colleague Diana Taurasi are the only Olympians to have won five consecutive gold medals in the same sport.

And they will continue to reverberate throughout the world of basketball

and all sports for days, years, and decades to come because that is the impact of legends.
