What is an IIT?

The Indian Institutes of Technology is an autonomous public technical and research university located across all over India. They are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961, and are recognized as National Institutes of Technology under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Each IIT has several campuses spread across the nation. While a majority of the IITs have residential campuses, some of the others are co-educational. The institutes admitted only India citizens and citizens of other countries into its undergraduate programs.


Selection Process of IIT :

The selection process for IITs is made on the basis of a reserved quota which is strictly reserved for Indian students based on their state of origin. Admissions to the Indian Institutes of Technology are done on the basis of a single-stage multiple-choice questions and evaluation. Only 1% of the total candidates are called for an interview. The examinations for IIT admissions are conducted across a two-week period. All students appearing for the entrance examinations are required to appear for an offline examination that is conducted at 24 IITs. Eligibility Criteria Students applying for the Indian Institutes of Technology must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board.


Ranking :

The Indian Institutes of Technology are ranked on the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of India. The ranking lists are decided by NIRF in an objective manner based on a range of qualitative and quantitative parameters that are used by the NIRF, which includes such factors as faculty/student ratio, research and professional publications. Examination and Seat Allocation National Eligibility Test The All India-level examination is conducted for candidates seeking admission to the undergraduate courses at IITs. The test is compulsory for all applicants (eligible) to apply to IITs and IISERs. Admissions The admission to each institute is based on the performance in JEE Advanced.
