What is CRPF?
“Central Reserve Police Force” is a specialised Central armed police force, with a broad range of responsibilities. The CRPF, primarily comprises a well-trained and disciplined force of 1.3 million soldiers and paramilitary jawans which performs internal security, counter insurgency, forest and anti-Naxal operations, in the country as well as abroad, at various levels of intensity. Types of CRPF :
Organisation: CRPF is divided into four main divisions- CRPF Force Battalion, CRPF Zonal Force, Corps of Armed Reserve and Central Industrial Security Force. Headquarters: CRPF headquarters is located in the state of Delhi.It was initially called Kolkata (Calcutta) Pradesh Police Force. Ranks: A person can join as an ordinary constable and gain promotions on the basis of examination/skillful handling of weapon. The uniformed soldiers of this force are deployed in the Regional Armed Police (RAP) (Overseas and Immediate Actions) and Hostile environment missions The Special CRPF units are Special Commandos, Direct Action Group (DAG), Khedut Ghulami and Kamdar Sena.
